Motorcycle Riding Etiquette
As a motorcyclist, there are many rules you must learn in order to safely and responsibly ride your bike. However, what you may not know is that there are many unwritten rules of etiquette that your fellow motorcycle riders will expect you to master in order to be a part of the club, so to speak. Here are some ways you can follow good etiquette while riding your motorcycle.
Look, Don’t Touch
As a fan of motorcycles, you’ll probably spend a lot of time admiring the bikes of your fellow riders. However, make sure to follow this rule: look and do not touch. It’s fine to admire a motorcycle, but you should never, ever touch someone else’s bike without their express permission. You probably don’t want someone else touching your bike and potentially tipping it over or breaking something, so it only makes sense to extend the same courtesy to other riders.
Tap Your Helmet
If you ever pass another motorcyclist going the opposite direction from you and they tap their helmet as they pass you, this signal simply means “there’s a police officer ahead.” It’s a courtesy to remind you to slow down and ensure you’re following the rules of the road to avoid being pulled over.
Park With Care
The nice thing about motorcycles is that they are compact and easy to park almost anywhere. However, if you’re parking amid a row of other motorcycles, make sure that you’re leaving ample space between the bikes for every rider to be able to put on their helmet and mount their motorcycles without bumping into another bike.
