Riding a cruiser motorcycle is a lot of fun, but it also requires you to be responsible and safe. There are a number of things that some irresponsible motorcycle owners might do that other riders would look down upon. To avoid being one of those disdained motorcyclists, here are some crucial taboos to avoid while riding your cruiser.

1. Riding On Worn-Down Tires

One of the worst things you can do as a motorcyclist is to neglect to take care of or inspect your tires. Because you’re at a higher risk of serious injury in an accident caused by a blowout or a lack of traction, you have to make sure that your tires are always in decent condition.

Check each tire’s air pressure with a tire-pressure gauge before your rides and air them up as needed. Inspect your tires often for sidewall cracks, balding treads, or embedded objects, as these issues will require you to repair or replace your tire before you ride again.

2. Rushing Around Corners

Cornering is something you have to do carefully on a cruiser, and it’s not a maneuver you want to make at top speed. Slow down as you approach a corner or a curve in the road so that you have enough speed to round the corner without getting out of control. You can accelerate again as you complete the turn, but make your turns cautiously and always watch for oncoming traffic.

3. Weaving Through Lanes of Traffic

While your cruiser’s agility may seem like it lends itself perfectly to snaking between cars or riding on the shoulders of a highway that’s congested, this is something you must avoid doing if you want to be a responsible rider.

You never know when traffic will start moving again or when a vehicle might pull over suddenly because they don’t expect you to be riding between the lanes. Also, what happens if someone suddenly opens their car door for some reason and you’re barreling towards it with no way to escape? Follow the rules of traffic like everyone else and you’ll be in good shape.
