It's been 3 months since Indian Motorcycle announced they were building the FTR1200 and 11 months since they teased us with the FTR1200 Custom concept bike. Now, the wait is over!  Introducing the FTR1200 and the FTR1200 S.

So here are the good and even betters of this brand new motorcycle. The FTR1200 will feature an engine loosely based on the production Scout, and we mean very loosely. Lets start from the top. This new motor has a brand new larger air box that goes through the gas tank for the best possible top end power. The valve covers are made of magnesium to lower the center of gravity of this v-twin. The intake manifold is now incorporated into the cylinder heads with two runners instead of one. Speaking of the cylinder heads, they're also brand new and higher flowing. The cylinders are 4 cubic inches bigger bringing this beast up to 73 cu in or about 1203 cc. The compression ratio is also higher. The crankshaft is lighter which allows the whole motor to rev up quicker and become more responsive. This entire package is good for 120 raging horses and 85 pounds of twist.

This bike wears a trellis frame with SACHS suspension on both ends. Stopping comes with Brembos with dual 320mm disks in the front and a single 265mm in the rear.  ABS is standard on all models. The fuel tank is located under the rider's seat for better weight distribution and larger capacity. The FTR1200 will have preload adjustment but the FTR1200 S will also get compression and rebound adjustments. Speaking of differences between the two trims, your extra $2000 dollars will also get you lean sensitive ABS, traction control, 3 separate ride modes, wheelie mitigation control, and a touchscreen ride command system.  If you're really crazy, and if you've gotten this far you probably are, then you would spend the extra $1000 on the Race Replica paint scheme. This gets you both frames painted in red and a tank painted in the same Indian Motorcycle racing livery as the FTR750 race bikes. I wouldn't have the bike any other way.
