Taboos to Avoid While Riding Your Cruiser Motorcycle
If you’re new to the world of motorcycling, you have a lot to learn, and other motorcycle riders will want to tell you all kinds of things. It can be hard to sift through all the information coming at you to know what you should and shouldn’t do. But knowing what to avoid is important and can save you a real headache, so we’ve listed out a few of the taboos you’ll want to avoid.
Over-Burdening Your Motorcycle
Your cruiser motorcycle can handle some cargo, but it can’t hold everything. If you overload your bike, especially if the weight is unbalanced. Too heavy a load will make your cruiser harder to control and more likely to slide out on you unexpectedly. So make sure that you’re not taking too many things with you, and that you always secure your items in the proper compartments on your bike.
Riding With Worn-Out Tires
Motorcycle tires are expensive and you don’t want to replace them any sooner than you absolutely have to. However, you do have to replace them when they’re worn-down, and trying to get a few more rides out of obviously worn or damaged tires is a terrible idea. You’re at much more risk of injury or death if you experience a blowout on the road than someone in a car is, and worn-out tires are more likely to cause a blowout. So, keep an eye on your tires’ condition and promptly repair or replace them if you need to. Don’t ride your bike until your tires are good again.
Assuming Everyone Can See You
You might feel like the noise of your cruiser and the gleam of its chrome make it obvious that you’re in the middle of traffic, but you can’t just assume that other motorists can see you. Traffic is loud, and so are car radios, and it’s also harder to see you from inside a vehicle. Wear reflective or brightly-colored gear and use your lights and signals so that it’s easy for everyone to see you.
